I decided to make my Spice Market Tote out of my new Cameo Laminate. Because the laminate cannot be ironed directly, I substituted one layer of canvas for the fusible Pellon® Shape Flex® interfacing. More tips for working with laminates can be found on my website at this link: www.amybutlerdesign.com/pdfs/Laminated_Tips.pdf. Here are the changes we made to the Spice Market Tote for the laminate.

MATERIALS

- Cotton Duck Cloth Canvas 60 in [1.5 m] wide (1 1/2 yrds [1.4 m] for the small size and 1 7/8 yrds [1.7 m] for the large) in place of the fusible interfacing. We bought ours from www.jamesthompson.com.

- Plastic or Teflon presser foot for your sewing machine for when you are sewing on the laminate.

1. Follow the pattern instructions for cutting out the laminate.

2. From the canvas cut 2 Main Panel pieces and 2 handles. Machine baste* these to the Main Panel and handle laminate pieces.

3. Continue with construction of the bag. Top stitch* the side seams to keep the seam allowances flat.

4. Edge-stitch* the entire length of the handles to help keep their shape.
